Tom Ford is one of the most iconic and influential fashion designers of our time. Born on August 27, 1961, in Austin, Texas, he rose to fame as the creative director of Gucci and later Yves Saint Laurent. Tom Ford has also created his eponymous brand, which has been a huge success since its launch in 2006.
Ford began his career in fashion after graduating from college, where he studied architecture. He moved to New York City and worked as a design assistant for Cathy Hardwick, a well-known fashion designer at the time.
Ford then landed a job as an assistant designer at Perry Ellis, where he worked alongside Marc Jacobs. After a few years at Perry Ellis, Ford was hired as a designer at Gucci in 1990.
At Gucci, Ford quickly made a name for himself by modernizing the brand’s fashion image. He introduced sexy, form-fitting designs that were an instant hit with consumers. Ford also boosted Gucci’s sales by overseeing the brand’s advertising campaigns and store designs. In just a few years, Gucci went from struggling to become one of the hottest and most profitable luxury brands in the world.
